I searched for this topic but can't find anything that fits my predicament--

Skippy hasn't eaten all day, and walked away from her favorite (chicken in her kibbles). She peed and pooped once today and that's it. I haven't seen her drink either. She hasn't thrown up. She just won't eat! I'm giving it until tomorrow morning, then she's going in to the vet. She just wants to lay around---not lethargic, but not wanting to play either. Eeek, I'm so worried! She's never, ever been sick!

Yeah I would take her to the vet. Usually if they don't eat it's a sign that they aren't feeling well. She might just have a bit of a flu and may feel fine tomorrow though, that's happened to Yoshi before and I took her to the vet. I get worried when she won't eat her favorite things.

Hi there,

It's very concerning when they don't eat isn't it?? My Chi, Bonnie, went without any food for two days late December and wasn't her usual happy self at all.....she lost lots of weight - it was terrifying.

I took her to the vet and there was nothing physical wrong with her. This might sound strange, but I think it was MY MOOD at the time that was upsetting her...I lost my mum to ovarian cancer on New Year's eve 2004 and wasn't at my happiest leading up to the anniversary recently. Bonnie must have picked up on my mood - they are such clever/perceptive little dogs!! Since then I've seen her watching, and I mean really watching my face at times - she is my "Happy Police".

Of course, there are normally physical reasons for them not eating, but just thought I'd share my unusual experience..... BTW, she's eating fine now and is looking decidedly plump! :D

Cheers, Helen

Thanks you guys. And yes Helen--they are perceptive little creatures too, huh! Glad Bonnie is back to normal!
My hubs took Skippy to the vet since I had to work all day; her labs were normal, she was "mildly dehydrated" and they put 200 cc's of fluid under her skin. She looks like a camel with lumps on the side! She is much more active, and even ate chicken tonight. I was sick with worry!
The only down side was the vet visit was $200+...maybe its time for pet insurance! :)
