Hi! My Chi, Chuy has always slept in our bed with us since he was a puppy (8 weeks).

He'll be a year old in June. The last 2 nights he has jumped off the bed and slept in his little doggy bed or next to the bedroom door.

Is this normal? Is he trying to gain his own independence or is something wrong?

I have gotten so used to him next to me that its breaking my heart without him!

Cookie ia 14 and slept on my bed his whole life but sometimes he would jump off and sleep under my bed on the floor. So I put a little doggie bed under there for him. He'd do it when he was hot or if I was getting on his nerves tossing and turning lol.

At first I thought it was a reaction to Revolution, his heartworm/flea meds b/c it gives him tremors. I'm sure it was the first night. I will not be giving him that ever again!!!!

But, he did it again last night. Hmmm. Maybe it's just a phase!

I wouldn't worry, like I said Cookie started doing it for a while. He liked it.

It's common. I know what you mean about being heart breaking, but I think
they get bored just like us. And of course he's discovering his independence.
That will get boring, too.

The worst case - he'll came running back when it gets cold out ;)
