hey ,

i 've found an amazing clothing shop here ( the only one in belgium that sells this stuff) not far from where i work www.kitchypoochie.com
and the girl owns two chi's herself (longcoated) she's really lovely....

but she said if you own already 2 shortcoats it's best not to get a longcoated because they are softer of nature and it will be picked on???
because shortcoats are more original chihuahua's......i was wondering if this is true.......because now i'm thinking i don't know a lot of people owning both of them. i know about the chi-background , but is it true they are not great friends......??
i was thinking of getting a third (and last) chi when it's summertime....then i have 3 weeks to supervise ( that my other two don't eat it :lol: ) and paris and cosmo will already be over 8 months and trained.

and i was playing with the tought of getting a long (medium) haired chi.

Im afraid thats some huge misinformation on her part. A dog is as unique as a human in its personality, likes and dislikes. The coat of an animal doesn't determine its temperment, thats inherited through its pedigree and ancestry and molded through its treatment and socialization. You can certainly own any combination of smooth and long coats together. Your always going to have your Alpha dogs and your submissive ones. The reason people don't own both is because usually they have a preference for one type over another. My husband and I for instance prefer the longs and thats why we dont have a smooth but thats not to say that we would never not entertain the idea of owning a smooth in the future. If you introduce a new dog and already own dog(s), you have created a "pack" and if the new addition has disagreements with the dog(s) you already own, thats only natural behavior so they can establish the pecking order in the household. Perhaps thats where she has come up with this idea, I assure you its false however.

yeah the breeder i got chiwi from has a lot of chi's (20 something! some for breeding some for pets) and they are a mixed lot short and long... they all get along pretty well, there are tiffs here and there but you get that in every family

My breeder also has long and smooth coats and they get along fine. My sister's friend has a smooth coat and she has a long coat and the two of them are best friends, so I think it just depends on the dogs personalities.

:shock: She really has no clue about Chihuahuas :lol: A chihuahuas does not know the difference between themselves if they are long or smooth coat. For example, A chihuahuas does not know its size either thats why you see them bark and lunge at big dogs. They have no clue how big they are or how small for that matter.

He says all the chi's he has been around that are nice are the apple heads and all the ones he has been around that are mean have been the deer faced type, which is what we had. I have to admit..the ones we know, it has turned out to be true but I am sure there is nice deer heads .
I have never been around a long haired chi.

Well I have to disagree w/ the mean deerhead thing because Molly is a deer head and she's the nicest dog I have ever had the pleasure of knowing! LOL! No really my baby really is a sweetheart and I know that not all deerheads are mean.

I have to longcoats and they are so completely diff form each other. My male is really sweet natured and loving except strange dogs he ties to attck them and my female barely tolerates him she likes me hubby and the kids and that's it.

Hmmm, Mr. Peepers is a deer head and he is mean and Buster has an apple head and he is an absolute sweetheart! Maybe he is on to something! :wink:

Same here Poco is an apple head and sweet as can be but Bella can be a real bitch pardon the pun mostly just to Poco and I would consider her a deer head.
