I took Abbi in to the vet to get her check on for ear mites. During this visit the vet told me I needed to get her Parvovirus shot soon.

I am confused now, as the breeder gave her the last series of shots when she was 14 weeks. And so she has had three shot series now. I asked the vet about the other series she had received and the vet told me it wasn't how many in a series but it was the timing of the shot that mattered.

Personally I am very nervous about giving too many shots to my dogs. As both of my Corgi's ( I have lost one ) were/are allergic to the rabies shots. It is a horrible reaction which causes scaring both on the skin as well as internal organs. I forgot the name of it, but it is rare.

I would like to give Abbi a fighting chance not to have the health issues that my other dogs have had. So I want to avoid over medicating her. Please let me know if the vet is being extreme or not.

I had some young pups that had had 'all their shots' when I got them. That said the vet wanted a booster at 16 weeks. I had it done. That being said, if you are worried, ask the vet to titer the pup. If the titer comes back as being immune, then you won't have to do it. Titering is more expensive (at least at my vet), so I just had it done. After the booster at one year, I go to every 3 years.
