My 13 week old pup had been eating fine, but yesterday it was a chore to get him to eat. Now today he won't eat. I tried to wet his food. He is just not interested. He is also not his peppy self. I did give him some Nutri-Cal. Right now he does have Kennel Cough and maybe a cold too?

We are having a major snowstorm so I can't even go out to get anything for him. Is there anything else that I would have in the house that would be OK for him to eat? I just want him to eat!

He was just to the vet yesterday and the vet said that his cough will run its course and that his lungs were clear. So I don't know why he is not eating. But boy if he sees me with his treat bag, he wants that, but not his regular food. What could I do?

Do you have any chicken or beef that you can broil and then give it to him plain. Cut it up into little pieces and if you have white rice you can give it to him with that, and maybe put a little water in it so it's not too dry. He might like that. That's suppose to be easy on the stomach too. Good luck!

For sensitive tummies they usually recommend boiled chicken (boneless) and white rice. Other things to try are cottage cheese, plain yogurt aspertame free, or melted cheese on top of his kibble. My concern is his cough though.. from what I understand kennel cough needs to be treated with antibiotics. I don't think it clears up on its own. Maybe someone else has more info? I hope your baby is feeling better soon!

Thank you for your suggestions. I think that I have some chicken in the freezer. I did get him to eat but am now wondering if it is a loss of appetite or just stubborness.

The vet gave me some healthy soft treats, which he loves. I broke off very tiny pieces of it and pressed it onto individual pieces of his hard food. Well he ate that no problem.

He is on antibiotics for his cough although it is only improving somewhat. He is on his 8th day of taking it. Two more days to go. He is napping right now, and not coughing at the moment, so I will see how he is when he wakes up.

I also bought him a vaporizor yesterday, since the air is very dry in my apartment.

Oh, I was under the impression that the pup was already on antibiotics, but I guess I misread it. I believe you do have to get antibiotics. I don't think it's like a cold where it runs it's course and goes away. It can get pretty serious if it's left untreated. If this vet won't give you anything, I would consider getting a second opinion. From what I've read I think you need antibiotics. I hope your puppy gets well soon!

She said her chi has been on antibiotics for 8 days.

What I used to do was mix a little nutracal with water and make a gravy out of it then stir in the dry food. Worked like a charm :)

Ms P, that is a good idea! I will try that in the morning! I think he is just being picky with his food. I did boil him a little chicken and he ate it right up. He just all of a sudden is not fond of his dry food. He does like his Nutri-Cal so I will definently try to mix it with water and add it to his dry food! Thanks!
