Has anyone taken their Chi pup to a training school or have you all trained them yourself?

I visited a class yesterday morning without Radley, and my biggest concern was the 5 dogs that were attending were all quite big breeds, including a Boxer, Beagle (chunky one too), a poodle, a spaniel of some description, a terrier and the smallest was a dachsund.

I am sure they are all fine, but on arrival they were all running off the lead in the centre and were biting & nipping at each other (playfully).

If one of them nipped at Radley, well... he looks more like a chew toy than a dog at the current size, so it could be quite bad.

My other concern was the sheer amount of treats that were given during the class. It would equate to more than a meal for Radley.

I am taking him to meet my mums 2 shih tzu's this week before deciding, but just wanted some of your opinions of the classes?

Thanks :)

I think its a good idea to take him, the trainers will know how to introduce him to the big dogs, and the sooner it is done the better. To many small dogs are scared and mouth off and are then gone in one bite from a big dog.
I'm sure they won't have him running around with huge dogs at first.
I take my dogs to ring craft every week and altho we dont have them off the leads they do a bit of socialising with all size dogs including danes and boxers.
My guys get a lot of treats at shows and training, try cutting up tiny bits of cheese or ham or liver sausage. Something that smells strong but is not going to fill them up to quickly.
And remember make it fun, if he hates it stop taking him as it could make him worse.

Yeah that's what I want. I am going to take him to my mums this weekend to meet Millie & Jenson (her Shih Tzu's). Millie is a little madam, and Jenson is so laid back, so it should give us a good idea on how he will react to other dogs and give him a chance to have a play if all goes well. Hopefully we will take them all for a nice walk too, Radleys first walk.

I think school may start next week rather than this week, but we'll see how it goes with the tzu's.

we took Madi to class, hoping to socialize her - she didn't really like the other dogs (except the GIANT goldendoodle - i think it was because she couldn't see her eyes).

We learned a ton, though, and I'm SOOO glad we did it. She's very obedient and learned a lot quickly. She loves to do her "tricks" and all that, too :)
