I need to take a flight with both of my pups. Our airline allows 5 pups per flight and we already purchased their tickets. That's not the issue.

I'm looking at containers to put them in. I like this bag: http://www.petco.com/product/109963/Pet-Gear-Black-Ultimate-Traveler-4-in-1.aspx?CoreCat=FamilyCrossSell

My question is the site says the dog needs to be able to stand up in the bag. What do they mean by that? Is that with the head sticking straight up or out flat? Does that make sense? Like if they were looking ahead instead of at the ground.

Daisy won't be a problem but Lily is tall with her head up. With it straight she'd probably be fine. The bag says it's good for up to 15 pounds and Lily is 12.50 pounds so she should be (barely) okay.

I can't ship her cargo as she is 1/2 snub-nosed breed (Shih Tzu) even though she doesn't have the snub nose. Plus I'm not willing to ship her without climate control and separate from the rest of us.

What do you guys think? about the standing issue and the bags?

I would take caution--all three reviews on the site seem to imply that the 15lb limit is misleading. One reviewer said that he/she had trouble fitting a 7.5lb chi in it...

Yes be careful with the bags. My advice to you is to take your pups to a PetsMart or Petco and put them in the bags you are looking in to be safe. The bag I purchased for our flight was a bag that can be a crate, suitcase or backpack (3 in one) It has come in very handy for many other things. Yoshi could stand up and turn around in it but could not stand completely up with head up. As long as they can turn around a bit and can be comfortable then it will be fine. Chances are, noone will even look at your dogs. Noone looked at mine and noone even knew he was on the plane. I bought a ticket for him but I dont think anyone would have paid attention if I hadnt?

What airline are you flying?

I was really worried about this the first time we flew with our 16 lb chi mix...we checked her one way and she HATED it so we decided to try to carry her on on the way home. They let us...we were flying United.

We talked to another family that had a dog even bigger than ours under the seat, and they let them carry their dog on regularly.

United is pretty lax, lol. I used to work for them.

You might want to consider bringing the dog in its carrier ahead of time to the airport and confirm with a ticketing agent that it is "acceptable".

Once you get past that point, no one really cares and no one really checks.

Good lucK! =)

I saw that. I ordered the bags because they are free shipping and can be returned right at the store if they don't work out.

I can't go out right now because I have MRSA.

We are flying Southwest and Airtran.

Southwest has a specific available bag...dunno about Airtran.
