I have been reading that until they get their vaccinations against diseases from other dogs, that you're supposed to carry them around and not let them walk on pavements etc.

Does that mean I can't take her to someone's house where a dog lives either?

Sorry if that's a stupid question, just need to know for socialising the first few weeks

That is not a stupid question. Trust me you should ask as many questions as you have. No one here will think its stupid...better you ask then find out the hard way later right

What I tell people at work when they ask us (i am a vet tech) is that they should stay away from public areas where dogs can roam around (dog parks, pet stores, etc....) You want to keep your baby clear away any area where strange dogs can be. The reason why is that you never know who has vaccinated dogs and who doesnt.

Now if you are taking your pup in your own backyard where you know for a fact no un-vaccinated dogs have been thats fine. Also if you are going to a friends and you know FOR A FACT their dogs are up-to-date on their shots and are not sice then thats okay too.

Your baby will have no protection against any of the doggie diseases out there until she is finished with her puppy shots. That means she is can pick up Parvo and Distemper if another dog in the area has it.

Just be smart and be careful. Its only about a 3 month time span after you get her that she will have to be careful. Once she is done with her last distemper booster she will be able to play outdoors.

I would also ask your vet to double check. If you have your vet picked out give him/her a call and ask that question. Trust me vets get asked that a lot so dont feel silly

I hope this helped!

Before we got our chis, we have found dogs in our yard 5 different times-(once, when I opened my back door, this big golden retriever ran through my house for 5 minutes and then lied down on my couch  thankfuly he was friendly :) )What I'm trying to say is we couldn't even bring our chis into our own backyard! We got our chis mid June and by the time they were allowed to walk around outside it was too cold-But they did go to Blockbuster,Walmart and the grocery store(really, really late at night). As important as socializing is-keeping your pup healthy is the most important thing :) Good luck and don't worry about asking too many or stupid questions, after all thats partly why this board is here!

It is also important not to put your puppy on the floor at the vet's office, PetsMart, etc., until he/she's had all of the puppy shots. :)
