We had an unfortunate even this past week. My wife and decided to buy a female puppy this fall. Long story short, we found out our little boy Astro's parents where having their last litter. Luckily 1 girl was born and was to be ours! Finally last Wednesday the breeder was ready to let her go and took all the puppies to the vet earlier that day and we came to pick her up that evening. She wasn't eating Thursday and we assumed she was just nervous and acclimating to the changes. But we took her to the vet anyways. She was released from her mom and litter too soon and I had been feeling all that time. She was hypoglycemic, enimic and acting disoriented. Thursday night and Friday we cared for her and finally Saturday morning, being all emotional and concerned she went back to the vets. She spent nearly all day there with an IV for dehyrdation and the same issues she was having before and diharea. The vet had a hunch she had a liver shunt that wouldn't allow her liver to filter toxins. I stayed up with her all night feeding her the formula, karo syrup on her gums and water constantly, for 3 hours this seemed to be doing the trick and she was acting better. But as nature would have it she took a turn for the worst and a few hours later at 4:25 Sunday morning she passed away. I know I only knew Goji for a few days but I am so heart broken she's gone. This time my wife and I know better and will make sure to find a better breeder that won't release puppies early.

So, so sorry for your loss! No matter how long you had her, it only takes a very, very short time to attach!

I wish there were some way to get rid of irresponsible breeders!

I really don't know what to say, except that I am really sorry.

Really sorry for your loss. That's so sad, poor little girl. I can't imagine the emotional pain and stress. I can't stand irresponsible breeders! It's like we look to them as know what's best for the puppy since they are the ones breeding them and yet they don't do anything right! RIP pretty girl. :(

That's so true, it didn't take long but we knew puppies where coming before they were born and saw pictures every week till we picked her up, had her collar, leash and tag all picked out and ready for her. My wife wasn't too attached since she understands things happen, but I was very emotionally involved and her pickup was a birthday gift to me. Hopefully soon we will be ready to find another little girl once we have the money saved and after paying a the weekend's worth the vet bills.

She was 7 weeks old when we got her and the breeder's vet cleared them to be picked. I don't really think it was the breeder's fault. But who knows. I should have trusted my gut instinct and made sure she was leaving at the 8 week mark or later.

This is horrible. I am so sorry this happened to you. I totally understand, I was completely attached to Toby before I got him, the love is there from the beginning.
RIP Goji.

I 100% blame the breeder. She was incredibly irresponsible. Quality Chi breeders usually don't let pups come home until 10 or so weeks for both their health and socialization. This was not your fault, but that breeder should not be breeding if their pups are going to possibly have congenital problems (liver?) and they are not going to be responsible with their practices.

OMG, she was 7 weeks? That's too young. In the country where I come from it's actually a crime to give puppies away before they are 8 weeks old and the "breederes" get prosecuted for it!

Did you notify the breeder? Hopefully this will teach her not to release her puppies so early in the future if she continues to breed, which I hope she does not. It's so sad that this happened because it could have been well avoided. Very irresponsible on her part.

I feel your pain, a few years ago I got a puppy - within a few hours I realised he was poorly - my vet and myself tried to save him but it was no good, little 'Archie' also had a liver shunt ..... big hugs from me xxxxx

So sorry about Goji. I wonder if you could look under the AKC breeders and see if there are any good kennels in Rochester.? Also meantime you can go to dog shows in your area, and meet some breeders who show their dogs. Good luck.

Another thing, Care Credit is a real help when it comes to paying vet bills. No interest for a certain amount of months. Most vets have their paper work. It is a credit card.

Well, I wanted a few weeks to wrap my head around things before looking for a new puppy but my wife has been persistent and found one we like. She is 6 weeks old and will not be coming home until the full 8 weeks if not 9 weeks. She is a short hair chocolate and tan and full of spunk. I am finally able to let go of Goji and returned the stuff we bought for her and move on. This new puppy, we are going to name Odyssey, and looks like she is going to fit perfectly in with us when we met her.
