I was walking my pups in the park with my hubby yesterday when we saw two huge dogs (Ridgeback looking, not quite sure what they were) with a group of 20 or more people who were having a barbeque in the park. When we passed again on our way home a man from the group was beating one of the dogs, he was hitting it so hard the blows echoed through the park and the dog howled with every blow (at least 6) - it made my husband and I feel sick. The other dog cowered the whole time and when the man stopped the poor dog just stayed cowering on the spot. We felt so awful not doing anything but with a group of 20 people that would have just been stupid. The rest of the people didn't seem to bat an eyelid. I just don't understand this type of behaviour. People like this obviously don't love animals so why own a dog? I don't even know what I can do about it, I don't know where they live so I can't report them to the RSPCA but I feel bad for the poor dogs so I want to do something :(

I can imagine what you felt when u saw that, i saw this a couple of months ago with my neighbor and since animal control here does'nt care much about animals i just called the cops and filed a complaint. I never saw the cops come or anything done about it thow, wich makes me sick that neither cops or animal control here cares at all about dogs! So sorry you saw this as i know this is a horrible thing 2 see, and like u said there were 2 many of them and just 2 of you, you could have gotten hurt!

That is why there are so many dogs that have to be put down because they bite or they are mean. If you teach your dog with violence it will learn to be violent As the saying goes there is no such thing as a bad dog only a bad owner. They should have some sort of law in place so that people that beat their dogs should not be allowed to ever own any kind of animal it makes me sick just hearing about it. I don't think I would have been able to contain my temper if it was me who saw that.

That's terrible! I've directly witnessed animal cruelty once, and I went insane. INSANE. I took matters into my own hands, which wasn't smart because it was a huge group of intoxicated guys. In hindsight, I should have phoned the police.

Edited to add that it was effective! Haha. Still not smart.

Disgusting human beings. Preying on a poor animal.

My next door neighbor tied his cat to a tree during a hurricane.
His dog is locked outside 24/7 in a small pen with no grass and only a tiny dog house for shelter from rain and 100+ degree heat. We called the Humane Society twice. Because he provides food and water and "shelter" they didn't do anything. THAT disgusted me. If I had witnessed that, I might have lost my mind with anger.

I'm kind of embarassed to say. I ran down a hill at the group screaming and threatening them. When I said I was calling the cops, they all scattered. Since it was on a university campus, I immediately reported them to patrolling campus security. They were dumb enough to hang around in close by parking lot.
Dnt b embarrased! U saved those dogs or dog.

That's unbelievable. It's sad that people actually have the confidence to do things like that in public, because they know there's such a low chance of authorities ever doing anything about it. I think I would have lost it if I saw that. I would have camped out and called the cops until they came. But, the cops might just ignore a situation like that, which is really, really unfortunate.

I'm sorry you had to see that, and even more sorry for that poor dog that is stuck with such a rotten owner.

I'm afraid I would've lost it & physically challenged the guy with a swift kick in the cods IF I was alone, or with another female, or one of my kids.

No way would I physically intervene if I had a male friend/hubby etc. present though, that's when fists start to fly.
