try to entice her to eat her kibble with the a/d mixed in with it (warm it up a bit and if you have to put some on her mouth so she has to lick it to try it.) if she eats it keep it up and eventually wean her off of the a/d little by little, but if she only licks the a/d and not the kibble then (i did this with chiwi) in the begining i was syringe feeding it, then i would put it on her mouth and make her lick it and after a little while she would lick it off my finger by herself, then i would lure her to the plate with it on my finger and drop it on the plate then i aded her kibble again this time i soaked it and she couldn't tell it was in there and little by little i soaked it less and less and took out the a/d a little at a time..... i just fed her as much as she would eat.
A/D is a high fat diet so you could just give her a/d until she gains weight (if that's the goal). Tiny was on just a/d for a month and we later switched her to wellness wet food. I wouldn't feed her just a/d for too long. Are you giving it to entice her to eat? Or to gain weight? I think it smells really yummy to them because it has liver in it. :pukeright: But I think it smells yucky!
ilovesadie-I suggested to her to put her on the AD because she was not eating. And it is a very highly palatable food. And if she is not eating then she needs those extra calories. :D We see alot of sick puppies in the clinic and I know it is very popular with them   I give a 1/2 can to my pregnant bitches everyday and boy do they do so well :)

Nat- for now i would give her what she will eat But not a whole can if she really likes it LOL . Dont mix it yet until she is eating it by itself cause it could turn her off from eating it. How is she liking it???
she doesn't like it   pff it's really getting on my nerves .......
it's a good thing she is so cute :D hehe
the only thing she eats volunteerly is chicken and tuna.
i m' giving the A/D with the syringe , i 'm going to give her this until she's stronger and gained a little weight (she still weighs less than the day i got her) so i can force her to eat what i give, without fearing for the hypo....
i wanted to try it this weekend ....but if she seams tired for too long (sleeping four hours) i give in and feed her .
she liked my mixture better......but the A/D is already pureed so it's handy for the syringe and i'm sure it's really good for her.
it's not easy but she's my sweetheart ......

ps it's crazy if i give her chicken boiled or slices or tuna she acts like she's extremely hungry :?

Nat- give her what she will eat. If she will eat it give it to her, cause she needs it. BTW If she wont eat the AD and you want to take it back, I know hills gives you a refund, just take it back to your vet :D
Wow she won't eat it? Tiny gobbled that stuff down!! And Ritz and Sadie tried their hardest to get a little bite! I think most dogs love it because it has so much taste! I would think it has more taste than chicken too! Is there a medical reason as to why she's not eating? Hmm...sorry I can't give you any advice! :? Nate is in China this week!!
no there's no medical reason ...she's not throwing up or anything ....
she's just EXTREMELY picky

i 'll tell you something ; upstairs is the food of the cat ( eukanuba) and when we are sleeping she always sneaks off to eat from it .yesterday i thought i'm going to have her !! i mixed a little of the cat's food with science plan kibble. well i heard she was eating and i went to check on her ...she took a kibble in her mouth ,let it drop , checked if it was the cat's and if it was not she would leave it and take another until she found a cat's kibble ........................aaarrrrggghhhh

she's soooooo mean to me :D

AD what is it ?

Hi, I have a new pup, and she is being very picky too. I cooked her some chicken and she seems to like it. My question is what is this A D food.

it's a prescription diet made by hill's science diet that vets give to dog's and cats that are anorexic....(among other problems but most commonly anorexia)
diet

Hello  My mother in law has this problem with one of her two dogs her dachshund wont eat dog food of course they give her meat that they cook for her she is just spoiled to it But there chi never got table food and all he eats is science diet :? when they try to put the dachshund on dog food she wont eat and they give in the next day and cook her more meat do you think your dog could be holding out for the chick or tuna? she may just be a little stubborn

Hey Nat, she sounds exactly like Poppy. To this day i worry about what that little madame eats!!
The vet gave me a/d for Poppy and she hated it, wouldnt even try it, just sniffed it and walked away! :? ALL she will eat is chicken or beef pastrami
Believe me, I have tried everything.I have to coax her at the best of times...I guess she just isnt going to be a big eater, ever, but the vet says she is healthy, has a great coat and is full of beans so I guess I shouldnt worry, but of course, I do!
no she 's not holding out for that ...because she didn't eat it in the first place :? i gave the chicken as a last resort.
vienna is as healthy as a fish according to the vet ...i give her lots of vitamins too .
he also said i could give her tuna !! tuna is very healthy for them but not on a daily basis. so if she will eat it ,it's good.
the mercury is only a threat if they live for 6 months on tuna only .

ps yesterday with the vet she got an injection with anabolics (and a pill) to increase her appetite,
i could let her eat the cat's kibble and then everyday a bit less of the cat's and a few more of normal kibble in her bowl.....so in a few months she will be eating right food.
