Does anyone else have this problem? Whenever we leave him alone (which isn't often, maybe once a week for a few hours) he howls and cries the entire time. Last night me and my Husband went out with some old friends, and my neighbors came over very upset that my little chi kept them up all night howling.

I don't believe in shock collars or anything of that sort. I was wondering if there is a more humane way to deal with it, or maybe what you do when your chi loves you a little too much. :(

Thank you!

I'm dealing with a very clingy new puppy myself. Since I knew when I got her that she'd be totally alone for a few hours 5 days a week, I needed to start working on it right away. What 'Barneys Mom' said is working for me. It's a slow process I think, and I've only had her 2 weeks now, but she's catching on. The key is she needs to know I am coming back and it's okay to be alone. She still howls every time i put her in her pen at night (and I'm sure when I leave as well) but the length of time before she gives up has already gone down drastically - the first week was almost all night, now it's down to about 10-15 minutes. I think the other KEY (this is a biggie) is to not give in and go get her when she's crying. She'll just learn that when she cries she gets attention. At least that's what I've read and it really seems to be working. Once she's calm and quiet for at least a few minutes, I'm right there to show her I'm back and she's a good girl for waiting so patiently. :)
