Hi everyone, i have a small problem with Charchi, in that he wont come to me if i have hold of his jacket, he actually starts to shake, when he sees me with it,which i dont like at all. I have up until yesterday just been grabbing him putting it on him, because it has been very cold, but i dont like to think that its making him frightened of me/ Any ideas anyone?

Don't give up! Associate it with good things. Give him a treat every time that you put it on so he equates his jacket with treats. And praise him a lot when he wears it. He will fight at first, but he will get better... He just needs to adjust to it.

Maybe he doesn't like the material, or it is rubbing in a way that he doesn't like. It took me a while to figure out Ote's "preferred" style. She never shook, but she would put her ears down and not move if she had on something she didn't like. Just play with him while he has the jacket on and make him forget about it. Lots of treats and praise when he puts it on will also help a bunch!

Midgie used to love wearing clothes until I bought a harness dress & took her to the vet in it to get shots. Now she tries to run when she sees her clothes, but she doesn't try to hard to run because she knows we're going somewhere fun other than the vet. She's fine once it's on.

As long as it's comfortable for Charchi, I would continue to put it on him. He probably just needs to get used to it. Odie runs when I bring out a sweater or harness, but will stop, like she knows she's defeated and let me put it on. She is totally fine once it's on, she just doesn't like the putting it on process.

I got it on him just a little while ago, with no running or shaking, i got two treats out, showed him the jumper, then the treats and he just sat there. So i gave him one treat as i slid the jumper over his head and once i had the rest of the jumper on him, i gave him the other treat with no shaking or running away. You girls are sneaky are you not? thanks girls such a easy thing to try, but i did not think of it. I will do this a few times, its nice to have him not scared of mummy thanks girls.-janet

I know this may be resolved but I want to throw this one out there. If you wear perfume, spritz some on their clothes, smelling like Mommy is the only way my girls will get dressed. I started it so they would get used to clothes and for my scent to be their comfort zone.
