I don't have a tape measure and I'm wondering about clothes sizing. Oscar weights about 7.5 lbs and wears a size small harness. I would think a medium would be too large but I want him to be comfy. Also, any suggestions on how to ease him into sweaters etc? He's a rescue, and to my knowledge has never been anything other than naked lol. He's great with a harness so maybe he won't be bothered.

I am just starting to look at sweaters and hoodies for Lady now that it is getting cooler. She has never worn clothes either. I had a little cheerleader dress on her for a game this weekend. She really got frustrated with it after an hour or so. I think, like anything, they have to get used to it. We might have more of a problem since our pups are adults. I think a good fit is key to their comfort. The cheerleader dress is a bit to big for Lady. I would invest in a tape measure so you can get a good idea of length, girth, neck, etc. Most clothing is sized that way. I would hesitate buying a generic small, medium etc where measurements aren't given unless you have a clothing piece that fits him to directly compare it to. Chihuahuas have a weird little body with a big girth (broad in the front) narrowing to the waist. This is why the cheerleader dress fits Lady odd near the back legs. You will probably have a better fit if buying something where neck, girth and length are provided.

That's a good point that as adults they may have more resistance. Oscar is in love with the outdoors, whether it's in the back yard or a walk. As soon as I say "outside" "walk" or " leash" he runs to the door and waits expectantly. I think he would go outside in Alaska without any thought. I am planning on getting him sweaters and a rain jacket and after what I've seen in pet stores I will definitely be ordering online. I'm embarrassed to say I have never shopped online before so I'm a little confused about what etsy is and how it all works. I live in Canada, does that make a difference? I will measure him ASAP as I want things that are good quality and fit properly.

Ps: I'm sure Lady looked precious in her cheerleader costume even if she hated it!

Clothes are a problem for me because Angel is odd shaped! He is 9 inches long from neck to tail base, but he has a chest girth of 16 inches!! He doesn't look it, but he has a big chest! So size small is snug around chest and front legs but good length. He weighs 9lbs.

So I am making him "vests." I also have to "retrain" him to wearing sweaters! Last year was no problem, but now when I put a sweater on him, he wants to bite! That can't be tolerated! So I have to go back to the beginning.

What I did initially is to give him a treat (very small ones that I make) for every action of putting his shirt on. Like give him one for putting it over his head, then one for each leg, and eventually just one for all or none! It worked last year, I will have to try it again this year!

As for sizing. . .every manufacturer is different. I find the Zack & Zoey from Pet Edge to be okay. But some of the sweaters I got from Pet Edge dont fit right.

I checked out a website last week - funny dog clothes - they had cute things and prices seemed reasonable.
