For those of you who don't know her, Sky is a beautiful Blue Chihuahua. She came from a home where she was neglected and living in very poor conditions with many brothers and sisters who I am praying for right now. My Mom was out shopping for a dog kennel (she likes yard sale shopping) when she stopped by a house where a man and woman told her that they indeed had a kennel. Well, when my Mom went to go look she saw many Chihuahuas all living together in the mud and filth and some were inside. Many were outside. The owners said that they all choose whether they want to live inside or outside but I doubt that any dog would choose to live outside in the cold winter with no love or attention. That was Sky's life. She didn't even have a name. They called her "Teacup" because she was so small, as if not having a real name was bad enough! They did not hesitate to try to make some money off of her so they offered her to my Mom and my Mom bought her because she felt so bad.

My Mom did this little dog the best favor in the world. Sometimes I secretly like to think that it's like Sky won the Puppy lottery. I love her, care for her, shower her with kisses, attention, and affection. In return she keeps me sane. If it weren't for her I would probably just stay in bed all day and sleep because I become depressed very easily. I am also indebted to my Mom because she had enough heart to not leave my Sky girl alone in the world. I think my Mom knew she was going to give me Sky. When I took Sky home with me my Mom kissed her goodbye and said "Take care of my baby, Sky, help her feel better, and that will help me feel better." My Mom knew Sky would help me :-D, and that I would help Sky.

And so our story together begins!

I'm trying to train Sky to be carrier trained so I can take her out with me and have her tucked safely away in a bag. It's going so well. I was kind of skeptical at first because she definitely is a feisty little girl and doesn't do what she doesn't want to do but she seems to be okay with the training. It's all very exciting!

Sky girl is asleep right now. She's so beautiful when she sleeps. I just have to be careful though because I have to remember that she was a neglected dog. Although she doesn't have as many problems as some rescued Chihuahuas I do notice that she is not like the other well adjusted dogs that I've ever known. For instance when she is sleeping I cannot pet her head. I cannot pet her anywhere really or she will snarl and bite me. I suspect that is because she lived in deplorable conditions with no comfy place to sleep with a bunch of other Chihuahuas always jumping all over her all the time. It's like if she is just used to snapping at anything that tried to disturb what little rest she might have gotten in her old home.

She also is very timid when I get up off of a chair or bed and approach her. It seems like when I am standing she becomes submissive as if to say that she is sorry or something. I know that her previous owners smacked their Chihuahuas (albeit slightly) if they did anything that they didn't like. They also made loud abrasive noises like when people try to scare away stray cats. That must have not been nice.

I hope one day she learns that I will NEVER hit her or scare her.

Sky got a strange cut right where her regular skin ends and her nose skin begins. I don't know how she did it. It seems like every time I turn my head for 30 seconds she manages to give me quite a shock like when she had a really big bump on her head. It was quite frightening. I wasn't afraid of the cut just wondering how she manages to do this. Especially since she does it in 30 seconds and doesn't move during that time. :-/ Very strange houdini dog.
