I'm looking for songs that could be interpreted as being about a dog. I don't mean songs that specifically mention a dog. I mean songs about a friend, or songs that are about love but not specifically "romance." I'm hoping to create a playlist of songs that will remind me of my little furbaby. :)

Anyone interested in helping me compile a list? I'll start: "You're My Best Friend" by Queen. There are some conflicting stories that say it was actually written about a dog, but whether it's true or not, it sounds like it could be about one. Any others?

This one has dog in it, I seen on TV thought was cute.

Found this while finding other one.

The Byrds had a hit with "Old Blue," with the lyrics:

"My old Blue he was a good old hound

You'd hear him hollering miles around

When I get to Heaven first thing I'll do

I'll grab my horn and call for Blue"

Elvis had a tune called "Old Shep" that told us:

"When I was a lad

And Old Shep was a pup

Over hills and meadows we'd stray

Just a boy and his dog

We were both full of fun

We grew up together that way"

The lyrics to the Pet Shop Boys song, "I Want A Dog" say:

"I want a dog,

To walk in the park

When it gets dark, my dog will bark

At any passers-by

Oh, (oh oh) you can get lonely

I want a dog"

Blake Shelton sang "Ol' Red" with the lyrics:

"Now Ol' Red he's the damnedest dog that I've ever seen

Got a nose that can smell a two day trail

He's a four legged tracking machine

You can consider yourself mighty lucky

To get past the gators and the quicksand beds

But all these years that I've been here

Ain't nobody got past Red"

Brother and sister team The Fiery Furnaces, tell us in their song, "My Dog was Lost But Now He's Found,":

"I kicked my dog

I was mean to him before

I guess that's why he walked out my door

I really wish I could see him some more

I looked under the mats and I asked all the cats

I went to the vet have you heard anything yet

My dog was lost but now he's found

My dog was lost but now he's found"

I have always loved this song since I heard it as the theme song for the TV show "Rob and Big." It could definitely work as a best friend song for a dog.

From Toy Story..My niece had the soundtrack she used to play all day long..ALL day long...I dont know whether it was the catchy tune or having it imbeded in my subconcious brain from listening to it so much that made me think of it. It may not be what you are looking for but it could be about a dog.

Ditto, I came in to say Michael Jackson's Ben - I could never stand him & hate rats but it was a great song.

What about "Would you know me if you saw me in heaven?"

Neil Diamond's "Hello" is a song I love and used for a memorial for my 2 chihuahuas Pedro & Max who died last year. It actually makes me cry because it makes me miss them so greatly. Just listen to the words of the song. They are beautiful and could be for a dog you are missing whether by you having to be gone or through them no longer in this life.

This is literal, but I think this song is hysterical!!

Love Me Like my Dog Does by Billy Currington

He never tells me that he's sick of this house
He never says, "Why don't you get off that couch?"
He don't cost me nothin' when he wants to go out
I want you to love me like my dog

He never says I need a new attitude
Him and my sister ain't always in a feud
When I leave the seat up, he don't think that's rude
I want you to love me like my dog does baby

When I come home want you to just go crazy
He never looks at me like he might hate me
I want you to love me like my dog

He never acts like he don't care for my friends
He never asks me "Where 'n the hell have you been?"
He don't play dead when I want to pet him
I want you to love my like my dog does, honey

He never says, "I wish you made more money"
He always thinks that pull my finger's funny
I want you to love me like my dog

He don't get made at me and throw a major fit
When I say his sister is a bitch

I want you to love me like my dog does, baby
When I come home, want you to just go crazy
He never looks at me like he might hate me
I want you to love me like my dog

I want you to love me like my dog does, baby

This is probably not quite what you're looking for but I had an obsession with the monkees when I was young and I loved their song 'I'm gonna buy me a dog' ...it's mostly them joking around but I always loved it and I feel so nostalgic when I hear it now.
