Hey , many of you know that for over the last month ive kept saying "Im going to get her done next week!" well i still havent! not becuase i cant be "asked" or "Am too lazy" but mostly now as we have had to spend ALL out money on catch up books for school as if i didnt pretty much i would be in care (Long story most of you know!) well now i was wondering , as next week tillie will be 11 months and STILL hasent gone into season , would it be ok/good to wait in till AFTER her season or try and do it before? is there any dangers?

She wont be near male dogs as there isent any in my family but obviously on walks ect. im v confused! i just want the best for her! i had ALL the money ready but then they dropped that on us and so far ive spent £128 on books and my mum £60  it was a VERY hard decision between putting of the surgery and obviously the problems that may occur OR doing it and be likely put in care and then never see her so you can (Hopefully!) understand my decision!

Ive tried looking into support for low income families but tbh i dont know WHAT im looking for! any help would be SO appreciated! x

Have you tried the PDSA? Animal Charity - Pet Health Care & Pet Advice from PDSA, UK

You have to receive council tax benefit or housing benefit to be eligible, but they can help with vet care costs.

How come the school aren't lending you the text books? When I was too ill to go to school, they just lent me the books I needed. It seems really unfair that you have to buy your own.

Also, have you looked into Home Education? You don't actually HAVE to go to school in England, as long as you are being provided with some sort of education. And that doesn't even mean you have to do exams and everything. You can de-register from the school and then you don't have to worry about keeping up with all the work, because with home education you can go at your own pace. I did it when I was 13-14, and from year 11 onwards I was enrolled in school but I did all the work from home.

Hope this helps a bit :)

Thank you for the link though! I will now go look! :D x
Wow, that's a horrible decision to have to make. Idk about in the uk but in the USA we have low cost clinics. There is no requirement or income limit. The richest man in the country could go in and have his dog spayed for less than half the price of elsewhere. Is there anything like that in the uk? Also, here many humane societies do the surgery as well at a lower cost. I have no idea how the uk works though. Good luck and I hope you can make it work!

As far as whether to get it done before or after her first heat- it is preferable to get it done prior. The risk of cancer is greatly increased and there can be lasting issues if she goes through her heat first. Not to mention the risk of her getting pregnant (because no matter how careful you are, accidents happen all the time as I am sure you know).

Good luck!!! Keep us updated please.
It's always better to spay before the first heat because you eliminate the risk of certain cancers and almost completely eliminate the risk of mammary cancer, which is very common in unspayed dogs. Waiting until after the first heat decreases the amount of reducing chances of getting mammary cancer significantly. I've read that after two heats, spaying basically doesn't reduce the risk of mammary cancer at all. If she still hasn't gone into heat at 11 months, you're pretty lucky. I doubt she will hold out much longer, though. I would really seriously look into some vets this week and see if you can get her scheduled for a spay very soon. Perhaps there are some low-cost, affordable clinics in your area. Just make sure you trust the vet that is going to spay her, though. It's more important to find a good vet that you trust than the best price in town. But sometimes the best vet can be the best price, too. :)

Aw that's a really poor show from the school. I was lucky in that my school were very obliging and let me come and go when I needed to.

Seeing as you're 14 are you going into year 10 next year? Which subjects are you finding hardest?

And from what Caitlin said it does seem like it would be a good idea to get Tilly spayed as soon as possible, I didn't realise it can help prevent certain cancers.
I believe sooner rather than later as it prevents disease and they heal faster
Some vets let you go on a payment plan you should look into it. Sometimes u can make a down payment and then pay the rest in installments. I know there have been many diff opinions on this on the board before both of my girls were spayed as adults.

Barrow it from your friend you said just got way over millions dollars and stayed with you before she got her house, she paying you to clean it now just see if she will give your extra for Tillie. . She offered to give you money for staying with you and your mom. Tillie needs to be Spay.
The sooner the better Shannon. Try to find a way to get it done as soon as you can.

yeah they pretty much hate me :p and yeah year 10 next year! XD and tbh when i HAVE gone in (A week at most then get proper ill) ive got all the work done! and been told its as if i havent even missed any work LOL

And yeah im planning on booking it in really soon :) im just really worried about the money side of it and then the health side but i would go somewhere else but theres only 2 vets within 10 plus miles of me and the other one killed one of my animals so i dont really have a choice.........
If you ring the RSPCA they will send you a voucher. They gave me a £30 voucher for Toby. I've got one for Dex too because he'll be neutered at 6 months.
It helped a lot. The original price was £90 including meds, so it cost me £60 instead.
I was home schooled and graduated 8 months early with a full diploma. I think its great if you are interested in learning enough to get your studies in :)

I have heard mixed things on the subject of spay. Personally, I spay my girls before the first heat as it can cut down chances of cancers later according to the research I've done.
By the way, I'm home schooled :D But Shannon already knows this! :p
Just be thankful you're not living in Sweden. I just found out spays here range from $700 to $1000. I'm pulling my hair out right now. At least I have about three months to try and raise the money.
Geez that's a lot of money 700-100!?!?! Audrey was 140 and that included pain meds. Sophia is from a shelter and was spayed included in the adoption fee of $110

yeah i REALLY want to be homeschooled but for one my mum wouldnt be able to do it even though there is other options but even though its my legal right to be able to i doubt i will be allowed considering what stage its got to now :( x
Yea my daughter was home schooled for grade 8 and 9 she's back in school now and its a wonderful school its a private school but its free. The school actually pays her 50. Cents a day to go to school she get her lunch whiçh consists of a green salad with your choice of dressing and any kind of sub sandwich that you want with any kind of toppings you want Wednesday they have a hot lunch. Its actually a native school but they do allow anybody to attend the classes are really small so you get lots of help if you need it. There are only 10 kids in Andrayas class she loves it and her last report card she got 3 A's 2 b + 1 b and 1 c the c was in PE she hates it. This school will even pay for drivers ed so that if you want to get your drivers licence they will pay for lessons for you. I'm on disability and its been a tough go but at least I don't have to worry about my daughters. Education. I hope everything works out for you and Tully so you can get her fixed as soon as possible.
