MIya is still always scratching herself. IDK what to do! She is always grooming and I notice she kicks her leg back to scratch always. She's on flea/tick meds..

When I stopped the benadryl it got a bit worse. If I don't trim her nails, they aren't sharp so she doesn't cut herself up...but I have to do her nails eventually and I'm worried she will cut herself again.

Reminder..I'm feeding Fromms and ZP, along with wellness wet-grain free. I mix her Nupra in when the wellness. She also gets daily fish oil.

I am battling itching at this moment with Lulu :( and I know it is food related. I just have to figure out what she is alergic to. I have talked with vet. If she is scratching, biting at herself, paw-licking, rolling on carpet, dragging rear on carpet these can be signs of food allergies. For a short-cut, I am going to have blood drawn and tested so they can tell me any/all foods Lulu is alergic to and I will not feed. Right now until I get bloodwork done every time I see her start the scratching I change foods, but I did not ask the vet about that, so I don't know if that is a good or bad thing to do. This started with an alergy to chicken developed when I started a homemade diet in Jan. I stopped that and started her on (I've switched her so much I forget some) I think Merrick canned food because after eating homemade I just couldn't put her back on kibble. I was told canned alone was not good for her teeth/jaws and Merrick di have some recall of some treats-not food-so I switched to ZP lamb. She has started itching again. I switched to ZP venison--she is still itching. I don't know if it is the lamb AND venison or something else in ZP??! I don't know what to do now. I didn't mean to take over your thread, but I hope this helps you to know I think it is a food alergy, and you need to look at the different foods you are feeding and pick something that is NOT in any of them and a different brand and try that. Look on dogfoodadvisor under hypoalergenic foods but be careful I did that--when you pick one you think you would be happy with you will start to read what people say and decide you could NEVER feed that to your dog even though it is 5star. It is maddening!!! LOL

I was feeding her innova, but she was itchy so she's been on ZP and fromms about 2 months now. I will talk to her vet about testing for allergies. She's going in next week for pre-op spay bloodwork.

Tiffany,
Fromm is great, but the food I had most success with for dogs with allergies
is Acana Pacifica. You must try an elimination diet, feed only that for 6
weeks, nothing else, no wet food, no treats, nothing but Acana Pacifica.
And stop adding the fish oil for now. I am an advocate for fish oil, but you
must be careful what kind of fish oil you give, they are not all created equal.
Acana has been literally a miracle cure for our rescues, not once had I a dog
that was allergic to fish, but it is possible however, just not as common. If
after the 6 weeks Miya has shown no improvement try a lamb diet instead,
yet again for 6 weeks, and see how she does.

Also I recommend you stop using fabric softener if you do, and use very little
detergent for blankets and beds that Miya lies on, it could be irritating her and
causing itching as well. Do not bathe her more than once per month, and
make sure to use a very gentle shampoo. By the way flea-control products
can also cause irritation. Which ones are you using?

Of course if you can see a vet it would be great to do some skin or blood
tests, to see if it's allergies or perhaps a yeast infection.

I just wanted to add, if it's at all possible for you to do I would highly
recommend looking into raw, if it's not an option try what I mentioned above.
Best of luck. I know it can be frustrating, I hope it clears up very soon!

LS-she's on revolution. She's on been on it for 2 weeks. Her vet reccommended it incase she had undetectable scabies..which the test came back negative. I'll read up on Pacifica...thanks for the help.

I wish I could help more, I know all too well how irritating this can be. We get
a few dogs/recues with allergies, and my own Benji suffered badly for a while
at his previous home until I started him on raw. I don't feed my rescued dogs
raw because most people rather feed kibble, so I put the dogs on a quality
kibble instead and the adopters continue on that grain-free path as well.
Through the last 10 years I've tried oh so many brands and Acana Pacifica is
the only food that offered success 100% of the time, I'm just amazed with it.
If it does not help Miya, you can start an extremely minimal elimination diet
with only two ingredients, one protein, one carb, for example venison and
potatoes, or duck and rice. You do this for about 10 weeks, if the symptoms
disappear, you will know that Miya can tolerate those two ingredients. If the
allergies persist you try two new ingredients for another 10 weeks, and so forth.
