My neighbor lady and I have been feeding a couple of stray cats for over a year. Their owner moved away and left them. They are both boys, I think, since neither of them has had kittens. When I went out to feed them on Sunday, the white one (he's white with a black tail that he holds straight up, so I call him Polecat) came up and he had bloody spots all over him, several of them. He had been shot several times with a BB or pellet gun, I think. Really upset me. I haven't been that mad in a while! He wouldn't let me touch him. On Monday morning I set my live trap and caught him and called the animal control officer, who came and got him. He said he would take him to the vet immediately and he has a friend who owns a dairy farm who would probably be happy to have a big guy like this cat. I haven't talked to the animal control officer yet, but will ask about the cat when I get a chance. I will catch the other big boy, who is black and white, and have the animal control officer take him, too. He said his friend would probably take two of them. I made me so mad that someone would hurt an innocent animal!! I kept saying last fall that I was going to catch all the cats running around loose and now I wish I had. I did catch one huge gray long-haired cat and the animal control officer said they wouldn't have any problem finding him a home. He was beautiful. This one wouldn't have gotten shot if I had caught him last fall. I have two dogs and can't adopt the strays, but they are nice cats and deserve a good home. I can walk outside about any time and count from 2 to 8 cats, none of which appear to have real homes. So I may get with it and catch them all and have the animal control officer pick them up. My neighbor lady and I worry about them a lot more than their supposed owners! We see that they have food and water and a warm place to sleep.
