Geez, folks - this dog has so many issues! But I am willing to do whatever it takes because she derseves a good life!

My rescue dog, Flea has been scratching for a long time. It seems to be concentrated on her eyes, backside, paws.....Her coat has gotten thicker, longer and shinier since I switched to a high grade food...and she's on a different hypoallergenic food now, so we'll see if that helps. But now--just in front of her ears, her hair is thinning to the point where she is going to go bald. I have also noticed dandruff. I have read that symmetrical baldness can be a problem with chis, believe it or not. I am hoping it's from the scratching...but WHO KNOWS?

I am taking her to a dermatologist specialist soon.

I'm going nuts in the meantime.

ARGGGGGHHHHHHH. (THUD)

Symmetrical Hair Loss

I am so glad you posted this. I would love to know where you read about the symmetrical hair loss. Lolita has a spot on her upper rear right leg that is a circular hair loss spot. My husband and I thought it happened because she had an itch and scratched with her teeth too much to relieve it. Funny thing is Lola used to be rather bald on the top of her head, but now has hair that has grown in nicely.

Those sharp little teeth, better than a razor.

Dobbie is highly allergic and sensitive to fleas. Let one get on him and he will dig himself raw or "chew" away at the itchy spot until the hair looks like it has been shaved. Keeping Advantage on him keeps the fleas away, so he doesn't scratch or chew himself. The hair comes back until the next time he thinks he has a flea. Oh well, I'm getting to like that short "Mohawk" look.

Brenda....

Yer poor puppy with the missing hair! Well, from what I have been reading - there are a number of causes for missing hair. Has your pooch been tested for mites? From what I understand - mites or roundworms can sometimes cause circular bald patches.
I have also read that symmetrical hair loss can indicate a thyroid issue or something...I just don't know!
I made an appointment to see a doggie dermatologist with my dog next Tues...so I will keep you posted!!

Lola's hair loss

Yes I had the doc take a look at it, and he said she chewed off her hair folicles before we even got her. She had a bad case of the fleas before we got her. I have been using revolution on my pups since we have owned them. No fleas, or heartworms. They are healthy pups, except for Ponch's peepee issue. :0) Thanks for your links and concern!!
