What is good for preventing tear stains? Does angel eyes work and is it healthy to feed? Any one tried feeding butter milk and if so does it work?
Chili doesnt have stains yet but he is only 14 weeks old.

Being on a high quality food they have no tear stains. Many cream colored Chis do seem to have them but Hope does not.

She got them once while on antibiotics and the Holistic Vet she sees indicated that it was the flavoring in the chewable antibiotic. I would think then that flavoring used in some foods would do the same.

Stay away from foods containing beet pulp or tomato pomace, or any kind of dyes or artificial or natural 'flavorings'.

Karen, are you sure? Monty eats Merrick wet mixed with Royal Canin (pre-formula change) dry, and he has tear stains. He won’t let me clean his face either.
I have heard before that it could be caused by giving them tap water to drink instead of bottled water, but I have not experimented with that. Any other ideas?

My guys are on Orijen Regional Red and Chibi had tear stains with that as well but about 1 yr into feeding it they seem to have stopped. No other changes have been made?

Hey Chili,

I use Angel's Eyes and it reduced the staining, not 100% though.... added bonus can also use it on cats should you have any. Depending on where you are located try in-store or online at petco.com petsmart.com or buzzingon.us I think by memory petco was the cheapest.

Cheers

Olivia had really bad tears stains. I tried every tear syain remover that the pet shops carry and none of them worked. But once i switched to raw feeding they have completely cleared up :)

She is a little far away in this but you can see the dark staining under her eyes. It almost looks black.

This was taken two days ago. Her eyes look sooooo much better!!
