I brush and clean my chi's teeth every night before bed.
I also use one of these, you need to keep his/ her mouth pointing down, and the pressure is easy to control since you pump it with your thumb.
I try to keep him from swallowing when I rinse, and then follow again with a between the teeth squirt. It all takes some getting use to for you and the chi.

The powered water floss things can not be as controlled as these.

NO! not at all. Its a small cat size cat tooth brush I use. The power floss thing, is a deal you pump with your thumb. It does NOT use a real strong stream of water as you can regulate it.
And that flosser does not use batterys. You pump it with your thumb.

Oh okay.
I once wanted to buy a cat toothbrush because it's much smaller and I felt like it be better to use on my 5 pound Chi. But I never got it.
