Hi everyone,
Well Pixie is now about 12 weeks old, a bundle of joy haha!
After her jabs etc I still felt she was too small to go out on walks etc, but we've taken her out a few times - I think the cold weather is really putting her off, we took her out when it was sunny and she walked fine straight away. Typical Britain!!

House training is going ok - the problem is she 'picked' the tredmill to do her business on?! I dont know if this is cos its raised or whatever but we started putting her wee mats on there and shes gotten used to using these 'most of the time' but still has the odd accident somewhere else...and we try to move them to nearer the back door but she doesnt go on them then, we've started showing her to go outside now she can get down the step but it is still quite difficult as he wee's are so short she stops as soon as we pick her up to move her to the correct spot etc.

& lastly, shes starting puppy classes next week, I didnt really want to take her to these as with our Bull Terrier they were terrible but we realise a Chihuahua is different and have noticed although she thinks shes Queen of the roost in our house(!) around other dogs she squeels so she needs to be socialised fully...
Ive just totally ignored her when shes squeeled at other dogs, hopefully it wont be too bad at the classes!

Ive been trying to teach her to sit using treats the same way I have with any other dog by raising the treat over their head until they naturally sit, but Ive noticed she doesnt! Instead of sitting to look at the treat she'll just stand on those hind legs of hers ;) teetering around... is there any other way of teaching Chi's this?

Any tips for any training appreciated as shes 12 weeks now I dont want to leave it too late, although she is still SUPER tiny!

Izzy is going to puppy classes, I had the same problem as you when holding a treat above her head, but as soon as she went to class she got it straight away. How did you get on? Izzy has 1 week left.

try this with Pixie: hold a tiny treat right over her nose and slowly back the treat up so she backs up and sits. If you hold it where she can see it over her head, then she'll jump up for it. Almost touch her nose with the treat.

If you have a playpen/exercise pen you could teach her to use pee pads. This is how we taught ours. She has her bed, water dish and a toy on one side, and the pee pads on the other. Good luck with her. Sue Davis
