Training my 4 month old chi

I am training my Pixy to go potty in her litter box in the restroom. She only goes potty there if I take her. She will not go on her own :dontknow: . She uses the carpet and goes under tables and desks. Is she too Young to get the hang of it? I tell her NO all the time but that doesn't seem to help yet. Someone told me to keep her in a small crate and take her out every 2 hours to the restroom on her leash. Do you think this will work. She cries so much when she is by herself especially in such a small crate. I really want her to get the hang of it but I don't like to hear her cry. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Anything would be appreciated. Thanks :)

i heard that dogs don't understand that rooms are connected till about 6 months. this means that your pup doesn't understand that when she can't see her litter box she needs to go find it if she has to go.

you might want to put her litter box in a common room -- that way she can see where she's supposed to go potty.

or, if you can catch her in the act and pick her up quickly, you can carry her to the bathroom and place her in the litter box. eventually she'll understand that she needs to go find her litter box to go to the bathroom. zoey is just now understanding to find her potty pad when she needs to go and she's 5 months.

Thanks for the advise :) When I see her going on the carpet I say NO and taker her to her potty but by that time she is done so she just looks at me. I am thinking she might be too young to fully understand what I am trying to teach her.
haha, zoey did that too. when i got her to the potty pad she'd stand there and look at me like 'what!! i'm already done!'

just keep doin what you're doin and she'll eventually figure it out. i know how frustrating it is!

This morning she walked to the restroom and went potty on the floor. I was so happy that she walked over there by herself. I didn't care that she missed her litter box by a foot, I was just happy she went on her own. It was a nice moment because she saw how happy I was and got really excited too. :)
