Hi everyone,

I just thought I post and update on Kira and her liver diagnosis.

We've done repeat bloodwork for liver function and bile acid tests which both are showing elevated bile acids consistent with a liver shunt.
We've also done a protien c test which came back in the normal range indicating microvascular disease rather than a shunt however, the specialists still thinks that because of Kira's age, her being asymptomatic and the bile acid results that it's a shunt.
So it's off to the university for an ultra sound, a spayed, exploritary surgery and repair of the shunt if one is found and they may possibly do a liver biopsy to rule out microvascular disease as a secondary problem.

Poor Kira, lots of fun ahead. Our apointment is July 26th for the ultra sound and surgery the day after. I'm hoping for a liver shunt that's easily repairable but I've read that dogs with microvascular disease and are asymptomatic can have an very good prognosis also but require special diets and monitoring.

So if anyone wants to cross their fingers or toes or send up a prayer for Kira it would be much appreciated.

Thanks for reading
Tracey
