Well so far she's lost 3 oz which is quite a bit for her. My dad checked her & Zoey's throat (the back, the sides by her molars basically her entire throat/mouth) is fire engine red! So she still has a sore throat/eosophagitis, so we are switching her antibiotics to Bactrim (this will be the 3rd ones she's been on), giving it to her for a minimum of 3 weeks, thank heavens for Walmarts $4 program....it will last the entire 3 weeks and them some. Also going to be adding Colloidal Silver to the mix. Oh the joy!

I did get her to eat a little bit this morning by liquifying her beef so it was soupy, she didn't eat it all but at least she lapped up some by herself.

He thinks it will take her a while to get over this as the bruised spots on her eosophagus, the irritation in & of itself makes the entire throat weak. She is also on ground only diet for next few weeks, he doesn't want her straining to eat anything.

This is probably an idiot question -- but I wonder if you could use something like a cepacol throat spray to sooth her poor little throat? I"m sure that's something you can ask your dad which is the ONLY reason I'd suggest it. I'd never use something like that w/o asking a vet first.

Hmmm, that's a good question I've never thought to ask in all the sore throats she's had, I think this one is probably the worst one she's had. He said he would only use it in severe cases, but he said it would probably be a good idea to try on Zoey since hers is so bad. We are giving her Buprenex pain meds 3 times a day, but he said to try the spray. Good idea :) Her face/feet are all red, I think because she's feeling sickly.

Poor little thing! Her throat sure is taking a long time to heal.
I know, it does usually take her quite a while to get over things, she doesn't have a normal immune system and it's suppressed because of having to be on steroids due to hydrocephalus so she has a double whammy in that regard.

Let me know how the spray works...I know I hate spraying it in my throat but for a few years I had chronic throat infections and it was a life saver. I hope it might help a little and she is in our thoughts... poor widdle baby. You are SUCH a good mom to her Heather and I have no doubt little angels made sure she ended up with you and not someone else.

Will do, I know it helps me when I get bad sinus infections with the sore throat. I know someone had a hand in her ending up with me, another breeder was going to take her, and changed her mind and took her sister Bella when they were about 4 weeks old, that's when I really started pushing Rob to let me get her. Something about her pictures at birth just grabbed me. The other breeder was smart enough to spay Bella once Zoey had all her problems, and realized they weren't exactly breeding quality to begin with.

Ibuprofen is toxic to dogs. She is on Buprenex which is similar to morphine. We are going to try spraying some topical spray (thanks Flippedstars for the suggestion) to see if it helps soothe her throat it's a pretty nasty raging infection going on in there.

Poor little Zoey :(
Im glad she ate a little of her soup, hopefully her throat starts feeling a little better so shes able to eat some more. Thank goodness you have a vet in the family, just imagine your vet bills if you didnt! It must help a little to be able to have her seen so quickly anytime you know somethings not right.
Keep us updated.

Thank-you, you are right it isn't fair she has so many problems. That's what happens when someone throws 2 dogs together without researching....her parents were both dilute colors & her mom's dad had a history of CDA in his lines and the breeder bred them anyways, as well as breeding Zoey's mom 4 times in a row, (wonders why she lost the ENTIRE litter before Zoeys?). I didn't find this out until after we had Zoey & she started having issues.

I don't think we could afford her Vet bills if my dad wasn't her vet, she's been sick so many times I can't even count them all without looking it up. Not to mention emergency visits, and having to take her to a specialist twice now...the specialist visits weren't cheap...one basically told us to keep on doing what we were doing as we were doing everything right....yah um $250 to tell me that thanks a lot for nothing....but they refused to do a phone consult.

Kristi;

I think it worked! I went and grabbed some Cepacol at lunch and sprayed her throat waited about 15-20 minutes and made sure to warm her lunch up (warm water) and she snarfed her ground chicken like it was going out of style. WOOT WOOT! Thank-you for that idea, don't know why we hadn't thought of it before.....lets just hope it sticks.
