This little guy was lurking in our yard today when Dave came home from work. He went in the back yard to clean up the mess that the raccoons made last night and discovered him digging in our garbage :(. When I peeked out the window Dave told me to go get him a bowl of food, I brought it out to him but he didn't want it (probably because he had already eaten our garbage). I started talking to him on my way back in and he looked right at me and his tail started wagging. So I flung the back door open all the way and got down on all 4's and started talking to him to see if he'd come in the house lol. He wouldn't really go near Dave but I got him to come in right away. He couldn't be more than 6-10months old. He still wanted to play and enjoyed watching me throw the tennis ball and then watching me run down the hallway to fetch it for him lol. I got a kick out of it lol. Dave went over to the office to see if anyone knew who's dog he was, but when he came back and said they didn't know I went ahead and went into my "save the puppy" mode lol. I gave him a warm bath, which he was so good for! I was really surprised because as bad as he smelled I knew he was outside dog. He stiffened up when I was lifting him into the tub but stood real still while he was in there. It was soo cute! He just laid his head on the side of the tub and watched Dave while getting massaged by me lol. He only tried to get out once and that was towards the end, all I had to do was put his front paws back down in the tub and tell him to "stay" and he didn't move. It was great! After the bath he had a serious case of the zoomies lol. I even put some flea drops on him, cause he had them...bad! I felt horrible for him. He was such a good puppy. After his bath and drinking 2 1/2 bowls of water (he lapped them up quick), Dave put his collar back on (no tags) and took him over to the office. One of the ladies that work over there has a daughter and she walked him around the park to see if anyone knew who he was. Dave told them to call us if they didn't find his owner and we would take him in until we could find his owner/new home. He was really sweet you guys. But he's long haired so we wouldn't have been able to keep him, Dave was having breathing problems the entire time he was in here. But he still wouldn't just put him back outside. Had they brought him back we would have had to just put him in back with a blanket and stuff. I don't really like out-door dogs but it's better than just being shoved outside with no shelter and no food. Which obviously he didn't have or he wouldn't have been digging through our trash right? Anyway..I hope they found his owner and I hope it was just a case of he got away and not a case of who cares about the dog. Ya know?

This was taken about 10 minutes after he got in the house lol. I was petting him and he just rolled over and had me rubbin' his tummy :)

Please excuse the laundry on the couch lol. I was in the middle of folding it when Dave came home.

See how skinny he is..are Brittany Spanials supposed to be that skinny?

Awww!!! He's adorable!!! Brittany's are pretty small, I think anyways. Usually around 30 pounds or so. At least for females. I'm sure males are probably more. I just love spaniels!!!! Its a little hard to tell from the picture if he's too skinny, but he doesn't look too bad to me. I hope they find his home (assuming he has a good home) if not, are able to find a good home for him. If you end up needing help looking for a home, let me know. A guy I used to work with has a brittany that he just bred. He's real big into hunting & might know someone who would want him. Or would probably at least know of a good rescue org. near you.

That wasn't a really good picture to show how skinny he was. His ribs were kind of showing and he just didn't seem like the right weight for that breed of dog. He was drinking the water when I took it and since I didn't know if he had any kind of aggression issues I didn't want to push my luck by getting up and walking around and scaring him. He was super sweet though :). I really hope they found his owner, but if he gets out again we're keeping him. Obviously they don't want the dog if they can't keep him in thier yard, ya know? I'm hoping that if he does get out again that he comes back to us. It's been my experience that if a stray animal is treated nice by a certain house they will come back to that house looking for more of whatever you gave them.

And thanks, if he comes back I will def. be contacting you! He is so sweet and just a great dog, but we can't have another inside dog and like I said, I don't really like the idea of keeping him outside, especially with the raccoons and stuff. I hope if they found his owner they don't mind that I gave him a bath and put flea meds on him lol. I just couldn't have him be icky and uncomfortable.

They should be thankful that you took care of their dog!
He is very sweet, by the way. I hope everything works out for the best.

hes a gorgeous britney, spaniel puppies tend to get a little lanky at 7-9 months or so, it looks more like puppy lankies than malnutrition. britneys are still rather prey driven, wouldnt suprise me if hed gotten out of his yard on the chase of a squrrel (ive seen brits jump 6ft) or if hes bolted from his person while on a walk...

i hope he finds a great home if his people dont show up for him. spaneils are great dogs!

Thanks for the info. :) He is a jumper! We have a gate between the kitchen and the living room to keep the pups in there. When Dave went in there to put the pups in thier crates so we could figure out where the dog came from (they were FREAKING out..they don't really enjoy bigger dogs), he JUMPED the gate to go sniff them lol. We put it up a little higher and he jumped it again when I was going to get him some water lol. I thought it was pretty funny.

That's sad Alisha :( I would hate to be allergic to animals. It's really rough on Dave because he loves animals as much as I do.

ETA: I forgot to let you guys know that the lady that works in the office took him home with her :). I'm pretty sure she's planning on keeping him if his owner doesn't come forward. I'm very happy to hear it :). Apparently her girls just fell in love with him lol.
