Hearty Pet has been informed by WellPet, the makers of Wellness, that they are recalling certain lot dates for their Wellness Canned Cat food. Wellness found through product quality testing that some lots were containing less than adequate levels of thiamine (also known as Vitamin B1). In this case, WellPet is taking precautions by doing a voluntary recall.

Please find the following lots that are being recalled:

- Wellness Canned Cat (all flavors and sizes) with best by dates from 14APR13 through 30SEP13

- Wellness Canned Cat Chicken & Herring (all sizes) with best by date of 10NOV13 and 17NOV13

WellPet did report that the majority of the products tested had the appropriate levels of thiamine, but due to the number of canned cat formulas, WellPet did not want to make this more confusing. Therefore to avoid confusion, WellPet has decided to recall all canned cat products with the specific date codes noted above.

Cats fed only product with inadequate levels of thiamine for several weeks may be at risk for developing a thiamine deficiency. If treated promptly, thiamine deficiency is typically reversible.

If you have cat food from these lots, please stop feeding this to your cat(s). We urge our customers to call WellPet at 1-877-227-9587 to arrange for return of the product and reimbursement. For further information, please visit the Wellness website at

We, Hearty Pet, have done a thorough check of all Wellness Canned Cat foods in our warehouse. At this time, we DO NOT have any more of the affected cases. If you need to place an order for Wellness Canned Cat food we will be shipping out the unaffected cases.

If we obtain any further information related to the recall, we will be sure to let our customers know. We thank you for your understanding.
