its getting to the point now where i cant find my perfect chi anywhere locally, and seeing as i dont drive i cant travel very far

ive seen lots of chis in america and some people say they will send to the uk but i was wondering what process i would have to take, and will it be traumatic for the puppy? ive heard that they have to spend some time caged up and have tests done is this true?

i'd be greatful for any respnses

They have to be quarantined for something like 6months.
I've also heard it's very traumatic for the young animal, as they'll go through a long flight being in a small crate possibly without much in the way of food or water. Especially with a Chi, I wouldn't chance it. They need fed 3-4times a day when they're puppies and something frightening like a flight may traumatise them.

I wouldn't do it, but that's just me.

Why don't you look for a breeder you like and then go on a waiting list?
That way you'll get what you really want, eventually.

Oops, forgot to say, it's also not such a good idea to buy a puppy from abroad because you can't get a good idea what the breeder is like.
The benefit of getting one from the UK is that you could most likely go visit the people and see their dogs and make sure they're living indoors, look healthy, are the right type of parents you'd want a puppy from etc.

I know it's disheartening when you're looking and there are only the £1000 puppies about, but just keep checking the websites and have a sift through the breeder lists and contact them about waiting lists and their prices. It'll be worth it

i agree - it ends up too much hassle. i considered it and ditched the idea. I found my perfect chi eventually - it just takes time!

I agree too , i did look into that before i found tyson and it just seems so horrible for the puppy that its not worth putting then through that , also doesnt work out any cheaper in the long run. Keep looking around im sure something will come up for you :wave:

I've seen shows on TV where dogs were shipped from Australia to the US and seemed to have no problems. But the US doesn't have a quarantine for dogs and cats - and the dogs were large dogs (the labra-doodle). I wouldn't send a small breed dog like a chi or pom overseas; I would think the stress would be way too much on their little bodies, since they're high-strung to begin with.

Have you looked at the listing of breeders in the buyers/sellers section? There's an extensive listing there for the UK.

ive been thinking about what you all said and doing a bit of research and it does seem like a bad idea. i will keep looking, and when i do eventually find one i know i will be even more greatful!

you really will be more greatful... seriously. If I got my chi 2 years ago, he would have just been my chi. But now... ow now.... hes my baby that Ive waited for so long, cried myself to sleep at night and I love him and appreciate him so much, and hes not evan home with me yet :wink: I may be able to help you out Daisy, I know some breeders in and aeound the London area, some that do not advertise on net. Pm me if ya need any help, where abouts in East London are you? what type of chi you looking for?

Actually the good news is that the 6 months quarantine has been lifted for dogs coming in from the US, provided they have proof of their rabies shots and a health certificate. However that is still way to far to ship a puppy and would stress them far too much.
