Why does he only piddle on the puppy pads?

I'm sorry for all the questions but this is the only place i've gotten good advice on my Chihuahua and his actions.

Now here is the new problem he just made.....lol. :?

On his puppy pads, the bathroom ones, he only piddles and doesn't poop there.

Why?

I mean I literally have established a routine and "code word" for the bathroom with him....all I do is ask if he has to go potty and if he does he whines when the word potty is said. Heck even my husband knows the routine and follows it....lol.

WHen I catch him squating on the floor next to the pad I say no and show him the pad....then and only THEN he does everything on the pads.

But he doesn't seem to poop on them....and yes they are changed out when they need to be.

Any suggestions on what to do?

I eventually want to get him started going outside, for when we have a house later on, but the vet said to hold off on that till she sees him this saturday and gives him his next shot.

I'm at work now and seem to be on a different time schedule then most of you so i'll keep checking back when I get a chance.

All the information I'm getting from you all works with helping to figure out things or how to tweak it actually to fit my little raz.

They don't really like to do both in the same spot.
Can you put another pad across the room?
Even when you take them outside they will pee on one side of the yard and poop on the other side of the yard.
That is wierd.....the irish setters always did both on the same pad.....hmmmm.....guess I'll have to try that then.
yeah chis are weird ozzy used to only pee on pads but wouldnt poo - they do grow out of this and mine do both on them now but I would reccomend putting one somewhere else for number 2 s
Wow...I didn't know it was a Chi thing. Chico does the same thing. We have two pads in each room. He's very good about using them both but I just recently realized he was using them for different things!

LOL...I just thought he was weird!
Not working at all!

Okay the two pad thing is not working at all.

He's still doing it and nothing works....sticking his nose in it, putting him on the pads, etc.

Maybe I'm expecting to much to soon.....only been 4 days.

DO NOT stick his nose in it.........they dont understand. If you dont catch them and correct them immediately forget it. You have to catch them and re-direct in order for it to "click" Yes give it a little time...4 days is not that long
The only time I've stuck his nose in it was when I caught him doing it and then I redirected him to the pads......it's a technique I learned from my father who has had sucess with it.
