Lion is due for a checkup and his distemper/parvo shot. I want to have a titer done instead of getting another shot. I am switching vets, so I am not sure if the new office does titers, but from what I have read here it is a pretty common thing.

Besides the titer, is there anything specific I should have the vet look at during his checkup? I know some people do blood work during checkups- is that the best way to get a picture of their overall health? Or is just a physical exam enough?

Thanks!

Missy, is this for the "booster" or are you past that? If so ( sorry can't remember how old Lion is) and that is the only reason you are taking him in I wouldn't think he would need anything else. When was your last heartworm check? Since they are drawing blood for the titer you might have that checked-- most vets want that done yearly. Oh, some like to do a yearly fecal too.

He is close to a year and a half now.. He is due for his yearly booster. He has never been checked for heartworm- my previous vet never suggested it, so it would probably be a good idea to do that. thank you!

I would do the blood work on lion for sure you said that he is a major picky eater right? I would be concerned that him being picky could be affecting his overall health. I would see if he is under weight at all also I would want to know how his liver is doing. Bijoux is super picky too and that meant she didn't drink a lot which was really hard on her liver.

Other than that I was for Tracey to chime in with her sagely advice as always ;)
